Whether we’re aware of it or not, each of us holds beliefs—especially about life’s bigger questions. Morality, vocation, relationships, death, and the afterlife are all shaped by our spiritual perspectives. These beliefs influence how we see the world, how we behave, and how we seek meaning. Finding a spiritual framework that resonates with us is essential.
It’s also natural for our beliefs to evolve over time. A belief we once inherited or accepted may no longer serve us. We might set it aside, revisit it later with a new lens, or replace it entirely with something from a different tradition. Some people blend elements from Western spirituality with earth-based or Eastern practices. This kind of spiritual integration is increasingly common.
Spiritual direction offers a space to explore these shifts. I help clients articulate what they believe and why, and reflect on the implications of letting go of a belief. Together, we consider how to preserve the deeper intent behind a belief, even if its form changes. This process can also involve grieving—letting go of a belief can be emotional, and I offer a compassionate presence during that transition.
At other times, our work focuses on how spirituality intersects with real-life experiences: death and dying, medical aid in dying, marriage, environmental responsibility, and human connection. These are moments when spiritual care can offer grounding and guidance.
My role is to listen deeply, reflect thoughtfully, and offer resources that support exploration. I may suggest books, poetry, or podcasts to help clients engage with a topic. Sometimes, spiritual practices feel outdated or disconnected. In those cases, I help clients discover fresh, creative ways to reconnect with their spirituality.
